I do this writing project with my students while we read the play "The Diary of Anne Frank." It helps students understand all the unique stories of the Holocaust. It also helps make the victims more personal. This project has students pick a child from the US Holocaust museums list of personal ID stories that is on their website. Once students pick a child they write their stories in a diary. They will write 6 entries and the assignment sheet includes a prompt for each one. I also give background about each prompt before they write. They are also required to include a timeline and a time passages poem which is attached to the file. My students always do a great job with this assignment and I find it really helps them connect to the Holocaust.
