This is a 2-page RAFT strategy activity and assessment to use with the topic of the Holocaust during World War II. Students will be able to take on the role of: a German soldier at a concentration camp, a Jewish family in Europe during the time, a Jewish boy/girl in a camp and more.
We have included a student direction sheet, a student example so you can see what a final product can look like, and a rubric that you can use to evaluate the product.
A RAFT is an effective way to get your students thinking beyond simple comprehension questions. It puts your students in a role that they have to become related to the topic of study. They then think critically about that role and write about their feelings to an audience. This is a higher level thinking activity that is easily adaptable for many areas.
