This activity provides students the opportunity to learn more about victims of the Holocaust. Students learn the importance of memorials as they engage in designing their own memorials. Each student is provided with a biography of a victim of the Holocaust. These biographies are from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Website. If students cannot emotionally handle reading about victims this lesson also includes survivors of the Holocaust. This lesson is a great way for students to learn about the impact that the Holocaust had on families and also personify the victims. It is recommended that after students have created their memorials that the teachers lead a classroom gallery walk so that the class can learn about multiple victims.
