Home Organizer Hal is the eighth of the 26 stories from the Powerful You book.
Powerful You is a comprehensive life-guide for families, educators, therapists, or anyone working with youth (ages 7-11). Hal is the eighth letter of the alphabet, the letter A and tells a heartfelt story from a child who has struggled with organization. . Lessons in Powerful You follow the ASCA National Standards, which were developed by The American School Counselor Association. This proactive tool encourages children to have empathy towards others and build positive relationships in the classroom or home. Hal’s story: A true story about organization.
Powerful Self-Talk: A positive affirmation about change, “I return items to their home..” Children will call upon each memorized “Positive Self Talk” during challenging times that arrive in life.
Reflect and Shine Time: Encourages children to interact and share personal experiences. This non-judgmental talking time allows participants to connect, release, and reflect or if in a group - learn from each other. It can also be used as a quiet activity where children can journal their thoughts.
Activities: A full page of activities are on the second page, including tips on decluttering unused items from your bedroom by letting go of items you no longer use. Learning how to sort these items into three piles will help children let go of unneeded items. Children will also learn to make “HOMES” for their supplies and create a poster to remind them to return all used items back to their “HOMES” they created. Students learn the value of writing “TO DO” lists.
These stories and activities will empower children to create the life they want, regardless of what has happened to them.
