Each night I choose one child to take a journal home to either write in or have someone else write in. I begin with the Name Book, each child's parents write about how that child was given their name. From there we do the Proud Parent Book where the parent writes about why they are proud of their child. Next is the Proud Kid Book, this time the child writes about why they are proud of their parent and finally we do the Show, Tell, Write Book. This is an opportunity for the students to do show and tell but they must write about their item.
Everyday before our interactive message the student reads what was written in the journal. It is a great way to build classroom community and build in some time for individual students to feel special.
I print the pages above and tape them to a spiral. Once we finish a book it goes into the classroom library so it can be read over and over.
