I created this lesson plan based on an article that I originally read in Woman’s World magazine. However, I have provided links to several interviews of this young lady and a couple of videos as well. I have also included a PDF of an article (see copyright at bottom of article).
As a teacher in a school district that is Title 1, most of my students are considered “At Risk” and so I created a lesson based of the framework of Ruby Payne’s poverty studies that was meant to inspire them to shoot for the stars. This lesson discusses each child’s future story and allows the child to provide a visual (The Window Into My Future ) to take home with them as a visual reminder of their dreams.
I have already done this lesson with my own students and they really enjoyed it and created some great visuals; I have shared four of them with you in the following pages. I hope that you enjoy it as much as we have! It was really heartwarming to see their faces as I read to them the article; they were very attentive during this lesson, which tells me that it got them to thinkin’!! :-) That’s always a good thing!!
