For this project students will use story (told through drama, artwork, book etc.) to explain how homeostasis and negative feedback play a role in their everyday life. Students will need to incorporate: thermoregulation, osmoregulation, waste management, control centers, receptors, effectors and set points in their story. Their story may be of a time their body was out of homeostasis or it may be a fictional story. The project includes a project description along with a detailed rubric outlining how students will be graded. The rubric assesses students on the following categories: Knowledge and understanding, application and problem solving and communication.
This project would work well after the topics of homeostasis and negative feedback have been discussed. It is a great way to get your students thinking about how homeostasis plays a role in their every day life! I will often provide three work periods to create the project with a due date set 1-2 weeks later.
