Studying Homer's Odyssey and looking for a new culminating project that incorporates writing, oral presentation, and visual literacy?
This project includes both written and visual components with rubrics.
Students understand that the Odyssey is a metaphor for life. This project personalizes their study of the epic. Part One requires them to choose among categories that relate to episodes in the epic and write about specific life episodes. Part Two is a visual presentation - but this isn't your typical (and boring) powerpoint or even a dizzying Prezi. Students present in a modified Pecha Kucha style, which has become a favorite presentation format for my classes. Students utilize technology in this project (for my students, who are 1:1, it is Google Classroom, slides, and docs) as well as hone their visual literacy skills.
Categories for Part 1 were garnered (and modified) from a vast assortment of similar epic - life categories writing assignments (I don't claim to be the genius behind the idea!) The Pecha Kucha -style presentation activity is solely my own. :)
