Chalk Dust and Dreams

This resource is for parents, grandparents, and caregivers who have found themselves spending a LOT of time together. We are all navigating through these uncharted territory of schooling at home. I hope these simple phrases will help you get in touch with all the special, remarkable things you already love about your child(ren).

Our children remember two things...the most caring and the most cruel words directed at them. As a parent and teacher, I want my children to be surrounded by words that make them feel loved, valued, and appreciated. But sometimes, when our nerves are frayed, it is hard to come up with something positive to say.

Spending lots of time together homeschooling heightens the need to reinforce good choices and praise good behavior. But saying, ”good job" over and over begins to feel old, tired, and inadequate.

When all of this is over, your children will look back and remember this time they spent at home with their parents, grandparents, or caregivers. This will become a memory, and my hope is that it will be a precious memory. They won’t remember doing “the math problems on page 59,” but they will remember how your words made them feel.

So, relax…and breathe. Here are some words to let your children know how truly proud you are and how special they are!

So, from my class to your home, Stay Healthy and READ!
