I designed this project for my 4th grade students when we began discussing settlers who traveled west on the Oregon Trail and pioneers who received land through the Homestead Act of 1862. I love quilting, so I decided to challenge my students to write a story from the perspective of a pioneer and connect their story to a quilt design. It’s amazing how many connections students make between this social studies topic and all other academic subjects. I hope you find joy exploring this project with your class!
