This is the homework packet I gave students for the 7.1 and 7.2 sections of our Miller & Levine Biology book (2010 edition). Kids need to do the required assignments (study guide, etc.) and can choose any activities they want for the rest of their required points.
It's a little bit flipped classroom and a little bit like layered curriculum, but worked better in my class this year. Great way to differentiate instruction.
Rubrics for each item can be found at the back of the packet.
Students who need help breaking items down, managing time, and tracking assignments found the check-boxes helpful.
Students can score each others' work informally to help each other see if they're on target for rubric requirements.
I graded them with mini conferences, one at a time, while the rest of the class worked on their choice activities. Good stuff! Worked really well.
