Have a student who struggles with homework completion and time management? Help them understand that homework does not have to be a mountain, but a series of small hills to get over!
In this nightly graphic organizer, the students set mini-goals for homework, breaking assignments up into more manageable segments. Students set time limits to each segment (preferably with a timer) so as to not become overwhelmed by the homework but also to limit break time. Over time, students can reduce the number of "hills" (working segments) they use by extending the working time for each segment.
This graphic organizer is especially helpful for multi-step assignments and projects.
Students have a checklist and a space to record any unfinished homework. This graphic organizer should ideally be initialed by both teacher and parent to encourage accountability.
