Is it ever too early to teach children responsibility and routine? Little ones are ready to be ‘big kids’ when they start school and ‘homework’ is just the thing to teach routine and responsibility. Homework For Beginners is also designed with a special ‘talk about it’ section to encourage regular verbal interaction with an adult.
(SL.K.1, SL.K.4, SL.K.6, L.K.1, L.K.6, W.K.8, K.CC.4, K.CC.5)
The elements of each of the pages in Set B include:
‘Different’ practice drawing lines
‘Letter Matching’ drawing lines upper/lower case
‘Counting’ practice with circling numbers to 8
‘Name It and Talk About It’ practice (vocabulary development)
‘Ask me these questions’ for verbal interaction with an adult
‘Bonus’ for the teacher to add an extra question
Set B includes 20 pages. They do not have to be used in order. Nor do they need to be daily. Questions for discussion are repetitive to ultimately insure that children know their own basic information.
Teaching Tip 1:
A ‘BONUS’ space provides the teacher a place to add a question (before duplicating) about something being studied in class or a special need for a particular child.
Teaching Tip 2:
A ‘For the Parents’ page is included to inform parents of ways to help their child with the ‘homework’. It is hoped that the parents will develop the habit of talking with their child and giving the child the opportunity to discuss their day. Also, hopefully the parent will begin to share the responsibility of teaching some of the basic knowledge that 4 or 5 year olds need.
For students who may still need letter recognition practice and counting practice to 5, take a look at
Homework for Beginners Set A: Numbers, Letters, Vocabulary
Or to differentiate, try both sets at a savings and use what each student needs.
