Having parents support the move to common core and providing ways for them to do this can be a bit challenging. Homework Skill Cards is one way to help do this. One of the main ideas of common core math is to have students flexibly exploring solutions to math concepts while building understanding and being able to explain their thinking. These cards provide parents with some ideas for supporting this process.
The cards are written in a parent friendly way, or at least as friendly as possible without jeopardizing the goal of the card. They are not written as in depth as a teacher would need. The idea is for these cards to support the daily instruction and provide students with additional practice time.
There are 14 different skill cards. The skills include:
Counting to 120
Property of Operations (associative and commutative properties)
Add and Subtract within 20
Add Two-digit Numbers – Adding within 100
