Specific film guide analyzes the lessons and ethics surrounding the true story of quadriplegic Spanish poet Ramón Sampedro. Students are exposed to Gallego, "Right to Die" movement, and poetry. Film guide is submitted in Spanish for a grade and/or used as a reference during our discussion post-film. I show this film to 11th and 12th grades due to mature and polemic content. Heart-wrenching and thought-provoking, we consider traditional religious influences, legal processes, and family dynamics; we become engrossed in powerful scenes and profound messages. Javier Bardem acts superbly, as students represent different perspectives, express empathy, and form opinions "en contra" or "a favor de" Ramón Sampedro's controversial wish to free himself from "The Sea Inside".
