Homework is extremely important in students in the lower-grades. I am a teacher of students with moderate to severe disabilities and I’m sure other special education teachers would agree that homework is a vital part of our students lives.
Homework teaches our students generalization of skills, allows parents to see behaviors related to work demands, the skills we are working on, prevents regression of skills, and also teaches students consistency and the importance of work!
It is just as important that our parents understand how important homework is, for this reason I have put together a “Homework Tips” handout that you can provide to parents in the beginning of the year (or you can attach it to their homework weekly for reference).
