Students read 20 minutes each night for their homework- and are directed to respond to their comprehension. This lesson includes a PowerPoint and directs students to read and respond in a journal five times a week, focusing on:
The Powerpoint sets expectations, guides student writing, and shows examples (responses from "The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate").
The students can reference hints on the bookmark each day!
This lesson works well with my middle school students. It keeps reading tailored (differentiated!) to the reader. And yet, students are accountable for reading, comprehending, and applying their knowledge to different aspects of learning.
Enjoy a year of students reading for homework!
