This lesson is focuses on the topic of Human evolution. Most states now require evolution of the hominids as part of the biology curriculum. Engaging and interesting lessons on this topic are difficult to find. I have put together a multi-day lesson plan that meets the standard criteria for this topic. This lesson pack includes all instructions and associated worksheets. The lesson examines the two main hypotheses for human origins, the Out of Africa Hypothesis and the Multiregional Hypothesis. There is also a data table for students to collect phenotypic data on each of the major hominid species. It includes an examination of jaw size, cranial capacity, tool use, language use, bipedal is, etc. There is also an analysis section that requires students to represent data graphically, write about trends in evolution and support their hypothesis with data. This activity fully addresses the assessment criteria for the Biology End of Course Exam.
