This activity is appropriate for 10th grade biology as part of their genetics unit. After learning about karyotypes, meiosis, Mendelian genetics, and human genetics, I’ve found students are still confused about pairs and ploidy, what homologous chromosomes are, and the nuances of genes and alleles. This is a fun class discussion activity, a great formative assessment, a quick exit ticket, or a reasonable homework assignment. I use this as a group, partner, or class activity. The chromosome illustration is printed in color on cardstock and laminated for repeated use. If you don’t have a color printer, color the 2 largest chromosomes (2 and 4) blue, and the rest yellow. Also, the image can be projected for discussion and clarification. A few of the questions are hypothetical and allow for honors-level differentiation. This is part of Human Genetics Bundled Unit
