Students are divided into two team - Xs and Os. Students play the game Tic-Tac-Toe with pairs of words in the spaces of the game board. Cover the words with mini-post-it notes. Students/team choose a space where they want to place an X or O. The words are uncovered. After the student/team reads the words, they have to determine if the words are homonyms (and maybe even use them in sentences or give definitions). If the student/team answers correctly, replace the post-it and let them draw in their X or O. Of course, the team that gets three in a row is the winner! There are 3 game boards with answer keys. There is an additional game board that is blank so new games may be created. This is a fun game to use in centers.
