A great way to practice homophones. A scoot game in which all cards focus on the skill of identifying homophones.
This resource and also be used for other things than the game scoot. Use it in a center or for homework. Keep it as an option for early finishers This resource has tons of uses! Below are just a few of the ideas. Includes 24 cards and 8 extra "Brain Break" cards.
To play scoot, all you need are the cards for the skill you would like to reinforce (ex-all antonym cards) and a recording sheet for each student. Place one card on each student’s desk. The students start at their own desk, and answer the question on their recording sheet. Then, when the teacher says to move, the students all rotate one desk. Play continues until students are back at their own desk. If you have more than 24 students, you may pair students up, or use the “Brain Break” cards. If you have less than 24 students, choose some cards to discard and not use during the game. Be sure students know which numbers they will not be answering.
Cut out each card, punch a hole in the corner, and place on a ring. Students independently or with a partner answer the task cards.
Provide as a choice activity for students to do when waiting for other kids to finish quiet work.
Use in a literacy center. The recording sheet keeps the kids accountable for their work.
Send home as a review for homework. It’s great because it doesn’t take very long to complete.
Bell-Ringers or Morning Work:
Have students work on these when they first come into class, so that they have a quiet activity to complete. They can work in pairs or independently.
