This is a homophone mini unit addressing their/they're/there. I have included a detailed student explanation worksheet of the homophones, 3 worksheets, 1 quiz and 3 posters. I have included a color version that can be printed in greyscale if desired and also a border-less version for easy copying if you prefer.
The introduction explanation sheet gives examples and allows students to create their own examples of homophone sets. On the worksheets, students edit the sentences for correct use of their/they're/there and also edit the sentences for common convention mistakes such as capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. This can be used as a whole-group exercise, small group center activity, or individual/partner work. In my 4th grade classroom, I have my students work on the worksheets independently or with a partner, and then go over the errors on the smartboard. If students finish early, I have them write their own sentences on the back of the worksheets using they're, their, and there. I use their original sentences to make the next day's worksheets.
The homophone quiz checks students' understanding of the different meanings of they're, their, and there, and also requires them to use the words correctly.
