Two years ago we started a club at our high school called the Honor Flight Club. Our purpose is to raise money to send those remaining World War II veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor. Obviously, time is of the essence. All funds generated from our club are donated to the Local Honor Flight Chapter.
The purpose of this lesson is to inform you of a wonderful movie to show your students called, "Honor Flight - One Last Mission". I feel that every history class in this great country should show it. Be sure to watch the movie trailer. Here is a review of the movie:
This beautiful film is all about honor. It honors the WWII veterans. It honors our history. It honors our freedom. Most importantly, I felt honored that those brave, strong men shared their stories with me. I will never forget them and the sacrifices they made for our country. The Honor Flight Network's mission is clearly shown, along with how much planning & work is involved in giving these hero's their day of honor. As you experience the day with them, you get a glimpse into their lives and families. Many times I smiled, cried and cheered for them throughout the film. They made me proud to be American. This generation will be gone soon...we should all try to learn from their example.
