Hooks can be difficult for students to understand and apply, but this activity makes it fun and allows students to experiment without the pressure of a summative assessment! The activity discusses the famous but mysterious artist Banksy, a person who is known for their beautiful graffiti art on what would be a neglected place. His paintings tell a story that students can interpret in varying ways, making him the perfect subject for lead and hook writing! This activity goes over the six types of leads, directions for the activity, images used for lead writing from Banksy, an objective and background information slide for a possible bulletin board, and extensions for when/if the students finish early. I created this for my students, and they LOVED it! All students no matter their academic level or background enjoyed the activity, and even tried an extension!
