I have created a way to make reading Hoot interactive and engaging. I have included vocabulary context clues, definitions, and open-ended questions for the chapter. I photo copy the context clues worksheet with the definition worksheet back to back and 3 - hole punched. Students keep this in their vocabulary section of their binders. We go over the chapter vocabulary words first and while reading the students will raise their hands if they see a vocabulary word. Students then re-read the sentence and using context clues they will write down what they think the word means. When the chapter is over the students either look up the definitions or I show them a Powerpoint presentation. They then compare the actual definition to what they thought and see how they did. Students get better at this with every chapter.
