The folk song has been extended with an original B section making it a perfect piece for a musical experience or a performance with your elementary music classes with or without soprano recorders. A lesson that incorporates your Orff and Kodaly music curriculum with singing, movement, instruments, melody, recorder, improvisation, form and creativity.
It is perfect for reinforcing melody using Do Re Mi with a traditional folk song. The song has been extended with an original melody and words in the B section that allows for additional melodic study utilizing Do, Re and Mi. Since the song is in the key of G Major it is perfect for an additional recorder piece focusing on B, A and G either utilizing the A section, the B section or both. Creativity is also addressed with detailed instructions on how to create an improvisational C section with your class with recorders improvising with the notes B, A, G. Detailed instructions are included on teaching a mixer dance which allows your students a chance to move while they are singing and enjoying music.
The set of Lesson Plans and PowerPoint interactive slides include:
• 8 lessons each 8-12 minutes with a 9th optional extension lesson plus an Orff arrangement. The lesson plans include detailed instructions for teaching the song, dance, Orff ensemble and activities to third and/or fourth grade. Adaptions and extensions are also addressed.
• 24 slides created with PowerPoint 2010 (with 20 being teacher and/or student interactive) may be used to reinforce singing Do Re Mi, playing the recorder using the notes B, A and G and improvising on the recorder. The activities are addressed in the lesson plan.
• 24 pages of iconic pictures are included at the end of the Lesson Plans for those that would like to use the interactive activities without utilizing the computer or a projector.
It is a perfect piece to add to a performance/concert or just to sing and dance in music class addressing curricular concepts as appropriate. You do not need to utilize the Orff arrangement in order for you to address curricular concepts and your class to enjoy making music with this product. Even though the arrangement was written to reinforce recorder playing with my students you do not have to use recorders on the piece. You could sing the entire form.
An extension of the lesson plan was also created. Feel free to check out Gathering Acorns Do Re Mi - Interactive Melody Game
or Smartboard: What Do You Hear? Melody - Do Re Mi
. Both products are relatively the same and are sold separately.
The PowerPoint works well on a Smartboard - just touch the board to access the sound effects and the animations.
