In the early years of learning it's all about repetition - same, same but different! Children need lots of opportunities to practise and use the skills the skills they are taught. This is all good in theory, but in practise it can become boring and repetitive. This 'Hop to it game' allows your students to practise a wide range of skills in a fun and exciting way.
To set this game up you will need some fly swatters. I got mine in a pack of 4 for $2 - bargain! Then print out the correct number of frogs (2 to a page) and cutand laminate them. I then used hot glue to attach them to one side of the flay swat. On the other side of the swat I added 2 velcro dots. Then select the type of lily pad you wish to use, we have some all green ones and some with a white box where you can use a marker to write in. Once again print and laminate the required number of lily pads, add a velcro dot to the top.
You can then use this game to practise any skills you wish. In the picture my students were listening for the initial sound and then "hopping" on to the matching lily pad. If they get it correct I let them remove the card and place it into the keep pile - I don't know about your class but the element of competition livens any game up in our room! This game could be used in a multitude of ways - write various numbers into the white box and then have the students listen to a number story, first to hop to the right lily pad keeps it in their pile. Seriously the options are endless!
