Every September I do a hopes and dreams bulletin board. This year students will be writing on frogs and the title will be “Second Grade HOPS and Dreams”. The frog has a large belly with lines on it. Students will write about their hopes and dreams for second grade. For example, I’d like to learn how to write in script, I want to be a better writer, I hope to learn more about science. Then students cut and color the frog. Students write their name above where it says September. Put these frogs up on a bulletin board for parents to see on back-to-school night. When you take the frogs down, store them. In June, have students read over their hopes and dreams on the frog. Usually they laugh at their hand writing and spelling. Then on the log they reflect on the things they learned during the year. They write how they accomplished their goals. For example, I practiced writing in script every day in school. The log has the word June on it. Put each students’ frog on top of their log and staple to a bulletin board. It’s a great way for students and parents to see how much they have academically grown.
