Students weigh measure and observe the growth of their hornworms!
Please follow all care instructions that come with your hornworms (just do an online search-there are online stores that sell them to teachers). I had received a teacher's guide with my order of hornworms, but it just didn't have everything I wanted, so I made my own.
This is one of the best activities I have done with my students! It is a great tool to use to get students interested in math and science. I used this towards the end of the year when students are in need of something fresh and new to keep their interest!
Depending on your schedule/time allotment, you may not be able to have your students weigh/measure their hornworms every day. If you are able to measure your hornworms frequently, please print out extra copies of the observation sheets and use them accordingly.
Students can use the graph to mark their hornworm's length and weight using a double bar graph. Just have students choose 2 different colors to fill in their key (top right corner of graph). Tracking a hornworm's weight may be very difficult at first, so you may just want to track the length until they get a little bigger (it won't be long!).
If you print and get a message about margins, just hit okay and it will print just fine!
