I have used this with my high first graders and my low fifth graders. Students read a chapter, look for important vocabulary and define them, and answer comprehension questions about the chapter. This is great for students to work on independently while I am pulling other reading groups. It can be easily cut and pasted into a journal. When we meet to discuss the chapter, I use their responses to help me gage comprehension. There is an outline for the unit as well as a book project the students can complete to extend their understanding of the story.
