I love to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with my kiddos and enjoy his stories! With this story I review story element standards. Horton Hatches the Egg has a great message about being faithful, but also having self-respect. I like to use comprehension questions that are specific to the text that the students are using. It makes it easier to give them specific feedback and guidance.
The Horton Hatches the Egg task card question set has 6 comprehension questions and 6 vocabulary questions with an answer key for easy accountability.
The comprehension questions include the following skills:
- Point of View
- Text Features
- Problem and Solution
- Author's Purpose
I have included the following graphic organizers:
- Beginning, Middle, End
- Story Elements Chart
- A central message worksheet that uses synthesizing as a strategy to get to the central message.
- A character study worksheet with character traits and motivations.
- A Double Bubble Map to compare and contrast Horton to Mayzie
