This activity is for use following a reading of Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss. It includes a lesson plan and a reproducible worksheet. Students will create a cross between two animals using traits from both. It is a lot of fun to see the creatures students imagine!
This could be used as a fun introduction for young students to the concept of heredity as described in the NGSS: "LS3.A: Inheritance of Traits: Young animals are very much, but not exactly like, their parents. Plants also are very much, but not exactly, like their parents. (1-LS3-1)"
