This a comprehensive language and literacy lesson that covers a variety of concepts. The learning outcomes address vocabulary, parts of speech, use of context clues, making logical predictions, identifying story elements, story retell/summarizing, comparing and contrasting characters, physical vs character traits, and critical thinking. As an SLP, I generally focus on one learning goal per session and build upon each concept as the unit progresses. Chunking the content into digestible bites based on the skill level of your students is important to ensure mastery of the learning goals. This is a great lesson to display on a whiteboard while reading the book as it follows the progression of the story highlighting target vocabulary and stopping points for discussion and predicting.
