It's good for students (particularly those with anger issues) to learn that they can control their anger by thinking before they react. This hot pass is designed to help students become aware of their feelings before they get out of hand. You can either give certain students a set number of passes for the day or you can keep them in your classroom for any student that may need one. The student will ask for the pass when they feel they are getting upset. They will take the pass to their counselor (or a quiet time out spot) & cool down before returning to class. After using this for a while, it helps the student better identify their own emotions and triggers. It also helps them to understand that they can control their emotions if they choose to do so.
