Game Suggestion: Hot Seat
This is a quick thinking, competitive game. Two students step outside the classroom A category card is selected. One of the two students re-enters the room. The other remains in isolation. It is important that the student waiting outside cannot hear or see what is happening in the room. The student inside the room takes a seat on the "hot seat". They are told they have 30 seconds to list as many items as possible that fit their category. Time begins as soon as the category is read. At the end of the 30 seconds, the student waiting outside comes in and sits in the hot seat. Inform the second student how many items he/she must beat to "win" the round. Give the same directions and start the time. Whoever has the longer list is the current champ. He/she then competes against the next person in line and so on. My students love this game!
