Are the 2nd grade HM spelling lists too easy for some of your kiddos? Do you want them working on the same phonics sound, but at a more challenging level? Then these lists are for you! I created more challenging spelling lists to align with each of the 6 Houghton Mifflin themes for 2nd grade. These are great to meet the needs of TAG students! For example, instead of Week 1's short a and short i words, "bag" and "win" the challenge list includes "band" and "winter." These lists can also be used to practice at word work stations or as extra challenge practice in the classroom for students that have already mastered the HM lists. They are in a vertical half-sheet format, perfect to send home as homework or use at stations around the room.
You might give a pre-assessment on Mondays to determine which students could use the challenge list each week. If they master the first list, they could use these instead. Or you might notice students getting 100% on the HM lists each week. These would be a great alternative for those students!
HM 2nd Grade Spelling Lists in the same format can also be found in my store.
