About the Game:
Niko and his dog Twinkleberry are moving into a new house. Students help them “unpack” by pairing objects with the rooms they belong in. “Around the House: Vocab Memory” was designed to target vocabulary acquisition in groups (speech therapy, ESL, RTI, and learning centers) of 2-4 early elementary students. It supports the following Common Core State Standards:
1. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.K.5c Identify real-life connections between words and their use (e.g., note places at school that are colorful).
2. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.K.1b Use frequently occurring nouns and verbs.
1 *Giant* Gameboard
36 Playing Cards (front and back)
4 Token Cards (to put tokens on)
How to Play:
Familiarize players with unfamiliar objects on Playing Cards. Place Playing Cards face down on Game Board and distribute token cards to players. Players take turns picking two cards at a time, naming both cards. If a player finds an object and the room it belongs in, it’s a match. The player can then put one bone on their “Twinkleberry’s Bones” Token Card. The player with the most bones at the end of the game (when all matches have been made) wins!
