This is an active, application activity for learning the Segment Addition Property as well as using the definition of congruent segments, midpoint, and perimeter. This lesson can be used as an extension of notes or additional classwork in a fun format for standard students. I have also used it as the lesson itself for Honors students as they complete it with little direct instruction beforehand. The last time I used it, another teacher also used my room for his two periods of Geometry because it worked so well!
Students will use the information given in the hand out problems along with the drawing/construction of the House of Segments to solve for variables using the Segment Addition Postulate. (I make a tape house on the floor with post-its as endpoints, but have included a Publisher Document for a SmartBoard display or handout if desired.) I also can send you a few pictures of what the actual activity looks like if you are interested!
The answer key is included. It takes approximately 30-45 minutes for the classes to complete depending on their ability level.
