Household Rummy is a new twist on learning and practicing categories. Use the pictures or the Rummy cards by themselves, with the BINGO cards, with any open ended game, for drill and practice, or a quick informal assessment. This pack includes a set of pictures, a set of Rummy cards, and 2 sets of different BINGO game boards. These can be used with the following games:
Category Rummy: Each player chooses a Rummy card (or rolls a 3 sided dice to decide how many Rummy cards must be drawn). Place the category picture cards in a stack for all the players to reach. Each player takes a turn drawing a picture card. If the picture card helps to fulfill their Rummy card, they keep it. If it does not, they place it on the discard pile. The next player decides to draw either a new card, or the card on the top of the discard pile. Play continues around in turn until a Rummy card (or cards) is fulfilled. The winner is the first to fulfill their Rummy card or cards.
Category Pictures BINGO: Each player chooses a BINGO game board of category pictures. Place the corresponding Rummy cards in a stack that all the players can reach. Each player takes a turn drawing a Rummy card and reading it aloud (the teacher can draw and read the card for younger players). Players place a marker on the picture or pictures that fulfill the Rummy card. A player must have enough pictures to fulfill the Rummy card in order to cover them with markers. The first player to cover a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins. You can also play blackout, or 4 corners. This can also be played with a whole class by projecting a BINGO game board on the classroom screen.
Category Rummy BINGO: This one is for older players who can read. Each player takes a Rummy BINGO game board. The category picture cards are put in a stack that all players can reach. Each player takes a turn drawing from the category picture card stack. They must name the picture and/or state 1-3 critical attributes (or as many as you determine necessary). For an extra challenge, have the player keep the card hidden from others, describe the card with critical attributes, and have the other players guess what the item is. The player that drew the picture card can place a marker on one of the Rummy squares that is fulfilled by that card. If the Rummy square requires more than one card (for example, “Collect 3 electronic items”), then the player saves the corresponding picture card. A marker is placed on the Rummy BINGO square only when the Rummy requirement is fulfilled. The first player that covers 3 Rummy squares horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins.
