This year, your students will be magically sorted into four prominent houses of Latin America: Kahlo, Menchu, Garcia-Marquez, and Amaru. Each house represents specific traits that reflect the house patron: perseverance, daring, creativity, and loyalty. Once sorted into their houses, students will be held accountable for their citizenship and academic progress through house points. Each semester one house will earn the title "House Champion."
Many schools have implemented the "House System" as a creative means to manage behavior. The house system presented in this curriculum was inspired over six years by the house system at the Ron Clark Academy, an incredible school in Atalanta! Since then, I have been perfecting my own classroom house system. This curriculum is the latest version of the house system I use in my middle school Spanish 1-2 classes.
This curriculum will help you...
1. Set up your houses
2. Plan your house sorting ceremony
3. Create community in your classroom
4. Teach your students about four prominent figures of Latin American history
5. Manage your classroom creatively!
Thank you for considering my curriculum!
