How Cell Organelles Work Together - WITH KEY
Too often, Biology students are asked to memorize what the jobs of the cell organelles are, and they never really apply the information beyond that. I know that I am guilty of this, too! Thus, to help students make CONNECTIONS between organelles and see how they work TOGETHER, I created this worksheet.
On the front of the worksheet, students compare the functioning of various people within a newspaper office with a lovely picture that I drew (I tried my best! :)). They look at direct and indirect relationships between various workers. Then, students take what they learned on the front of the worksheet, and apply it to the functioning of a cell, located on the back of the worksheet.
This worksheet will not only help students review the jobs of various organelles, but also learn how they work together. It's a really simple way to get kids making connections and seeing direct and indirect relationships within cells. It's also a great way to begin to explain (or reinforce) the idea of divisions of labor within cells.
While this worksheet is targeted towards General Biology students, I could see it working with lower grades/life science and upper grades (like AP Biology). In lower grades, I would plan for it to take a bit longer, and for upper grades, I'd plan for it to take less time.
You could easily use it as a discussion piece instead of a worksheet. As a discussion, it would take far less than 45 minutes.
NOTE: I offer this product with and without a key. This is my YES, KEY version. The key is attached!
