Ten colorful classroom posters to give my students a constant reminder of the kinds of thinking behavior we want them to show in our classes.
Most of us have some kind of behavioral rules posted in our rooms: Be on time; Raise your hand to talk; Don't swear in class. You know the drill, and so do the students. At the end of the year last year, my co-teacher and I decided that the physical misbehaviors of our students were far less of a problem than their mental or intellectual misbehaviors. We didn't just want them to be obedient and follow rules--we wanted them to THINK and WORK!
THE POSTERS SAY:
"I came READY to..."
* Make Observations
* Be Curious
* Ask Questions
* Read Closely
* Work Productively
* Be Meticulous
* Write Extensively
* Use the Smart Words
* and LEARN!
I teach English in a cross-curricular classroom that combines reading and writing with 9th grade physical science, so these posters could be used in an English or science class, but they could also be applicable in other subjects as well. The posters can be separated, so you could always pick and choose the ones you feel are most applicable in your class.
Each poster comes in a very high-resolution JPEG--they are intended to be printed as big as possible. We're printing them at just under 3 feet across, so they'll be a big visual addition to our classroom walls. I included individual poster files, but I also through in three extra files that put three or four posters per page (this should make it easier if you're taking them somewhere to be printed.)
I'm so excited to be taking this different approach to "rules" and "class norms" this year--focusing on students' THINKING much more than their BEHAVIOR. I hope you'll give it a try, too.
Thanks for downloading, and don't forget to write a review!
