PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Start making waves in your class by using an engaging observation activity to get students excited about the upcoming unit! This product is a great lab activity to get students thinking about mechanical waves - what causes a wave to start, how the energy is transferred through the medium, and how the wave's energy affects objects in the medium. Students are critically thinking and reinforcing their scientific inquiry skills by creating hypotheses and conclusions for each part of this two part activity.

The corresponding SMART Notebook file (also available in pdf) walks your class through each step of this activity with colorful illustrations. SMART Notebook slides also include timers to encourage proper pacing of the students and keep them on their toes! Discussion questions are included at the end of each part of the activity. Easy to attain materials are needed for this activity. The materials include (per group): a shallow pan (could use aluminum pan), pitcher/beaker of water, ruler, pencil, cork.

Included in this Package:
- Corresponding SMART Notebook Document (20 slides)
- Corresponding Presentation Slides in pdf format (20 slides)
- Student Handout (1 page)
- Detailed Lesson Plan with Differentiation and Assessment Plans (3 pages)
