"How do you write a main idea sentence?", a student once asked me. I pondered how to answer that question and realized there wasn't just one way and there wasn't a simple answer. Students have to understand how to find the main idea in order to write it in a sentence so I constructed a few organizers to help them write a main idea sentence that made sense.
Part 2: This organizer uses the knowledge of the five Ws (who, what, where, when and why) to infer the main idea.
