In this fun small group activity, students work to develop the following skill: “Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing; Use end punctuation for sentences.”
.Give each student participating a copy of the “How Does It End?” sheet. Each student in the center will need three copies of the sheet in order to work through all sentences.
.Place all sentence cards facedown. Have one student draw a card.
.Have the student read the card aloud. The other members of the center must determine whether the sentence is a statement, question, command, or exclamation and mark the correct end punctuation on the sheet.
.When all players have made a choice, the student holding the card reveals the end punctuation. Students mark their cards as correct or incorrect. Play then turns to the player to the left. Repeat until all cards have been used. Shuffle cards and repeat as necessary.
.Have students write 4 sentences (one of each type) on the back of the “How Does It End?” sheet.
