Oh no! The animals are missing from the barn! When the farmer calls them back, some hurryand go straight there while others take their time and wander around. Can you figure out how far the animals travel?
There are three different measuring distance activities in this pack.
The first is straight lines, while the other two curve around. Students should first estimate with whatever unit they are using to measure, whether cms, inches, mms, paper clips, blocks, etc. Then actually measure with their unit.
For the two curvy sheets, the easiest way to measure would be to use string to curve around the paths then put the string against a ruler or whatever the unit is. I like to give the sheet to students to measure and wait and see who can figure out that using string or something like that is an easier method to accurately measure the paths. Then they should record the measurement on their sheet.
