Middle school students discover the impact of climate change on 18 different animals. Addresses standards NGSS MS-ESS3-5 (climate change), MS-LS2-4 (factors affecting populations) and MS-LS1-5 (environmental impact on growth).
Students read an engaging 3-page article about 18 specific animals. Some included animals are well known (koala, seal, penguin) while others will be new to many students (melomys, thrush, pika). Each animal's passage includes interesting information about it and specfic details about how climate change will affect it. When finished reading, students complete a thorough analysis. The worksheet asks students to classify the types of threats climate change poses (habitat destruction, food source disturbance, reproductive disturbance, etc.), asks several text-dependent questions, and wraps up with a quick My Claim/My Evidence analysis section.
