Year after year one of the first questions I get when talking about WWII is, “Why did the Germans do what Hitler said?” Have students discover the conditions that led to the rise of Hitler with this questioning handout to accompany an excellent article by Junior Scholastic. This lesson is a simple, yet thorough introduction to a unit on World War II or the Holocaust. Students often finish with a good background of the causes of WWII, as well as a natural curiosity to learn more about this tumultuous time in history.
The student worksheet has 16 questions that go in order with the article. Each reading section has accompanying questions on the handout so students know where to find the information to work independently with confidence. The questioning format varies from creating t-charts, recording statistics, listing key ideas, to answering higher-leveled questions.
Includes: Student worksheet, teacher answer key, and a teacher reference guide
