Students are never able to see what goes through your mind as you grade papers while you're sitting at your kitchen table on a Saturday night. It can be frustrating to write the same comment on every essay over and over again, and the students never see each others feedback, so they don't even realize their mistake is a common essay error!
This lesson gives students an inside look about what it's like to be a teacher grading an essay.
It includes 3 documents:
1) Powerpoint about the top 10 things a teacher looks for in an essay
2) A really bad essay with labels over the worst mistakes the writer made
3) A worksheet in which the students look at the bad paper and write down what was wrong with that part of the essay.
**The KEY for the worksheet is included in this document!**
(PS: Don't worry, this is not the actual work of a student, it's my own compilation of common errors...which almost killed me to write!)
