I wanted to build an authentic learning experience for the beginning of the year and ended up developing this unit which engages students in an inquiry where they explore the various aspects of their personal identity. Based on the depth of the inquiry, this unit would richly benefit student learning at any part of your school year. This is part 2 that includes lessons 4 - 10 and the corresponding graphic organizers and resources.

Students will continue their exploration of expectations in Language, Drama, and Art. This part of the unit has multiple opportunities for authentic assessments!

If you reviewed or proceeded through Part 1 of this unit, then you are aware of the depth of learning that this unit is targeting. This second part of the unit extends that learning to explore social contexts, relationships, and media that impact personal identity.

The Learning Objective of this unit is for students to explore their personal identities in a safe space and to think critically about how their identities are affected by external factors. In addition, through the sharing of ideas, students are also learning to recognize and appreciate the differences in the identities of others.
